The Way Your Eat May Contribute To Periodontal Disease
We are all aware how oral health affects our overall health. There are several factors that triggers oral health problems that includes bleeding gums, receding gums, gingivitis and other forms of gum disease. Such factors are poor oral health hygiene, poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol , stress, illness and even medications.
Bulimia and anorexia can also damage the gums and teeth in several ways. Bulimic individuals eat and vomit causing the acids from vomiting to pass the mouth can erode the enamel of the tooth that can cause cavities, tooth loss and discoloration. This condition is usually being detected by dentist because the teeth appears to be yellowish in color and worn out.
Anorexia is a semi- starvation condition in which it deprives the body to have the nutrients needed to have the body function well. Osteoporosis may develop because of weakening of the bones and also with the jaws that supports the teeth, thus leads into tooth loss.
It is important to treat both eating disorders as to prevent gum disease and tooth loss . Preventing gum disease too by having a good oral health hygiene and using products that can aid in gum disease prevention. If left untreated, a periodontal disease treatment is necessary to prevent further dental damage and eventually tooth loss.
